Events in the Coming Month

There are some opportunities and events coming up that you'll want to know about.

Last chance to send materials to the PR Xchange! They must arrive by June 15.
If you want to send PR items for your colleagues to pick up at ALA's PR Xchange, you need to do it this week. Send your 100-200 copies to Anaheim, CA  using this mailing label
The event will be held in the exhibit hall on Sunday, June 24, 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Details are here. Nancy & I will be there, so stop by!

Infopeople Offers a Free Webinar  on June 12:
George and Joan on Community Engagement
If you missed this great presentation at the Public Library Association conference in Philadelphia in March, now you can hear George Needham & Joan Frye Williams do it again in a free webinar. I was at the PLA session, called "Tell Me Something I Don't Know: Meaningful Community Engagement," and I really enjoyed it.

According to the event description, " ... traditional approaches to community engagement are often far too expensive and time consuming for the limited results they produce. They can also be downright boring for all concerned! This one-hour webinar will offer a lively look at practical, affordable, enjoyable techniques for garnering civilian input without surrendering professional judgment."

This duo is always entertaining, and this webinar is free. So make sure that someone in your library signs up so they can share all the goodness with you. Trustees and Friends can benefit  too!

Salem Press has taken nominations about everyone's favorite blogs and has chosen 50 leaders in various categories. Now they need you to vote to determine the winners.

See the full list of finalists here, and vote for your top picks by June 18.

Library Branding Webinar on Wednesday, July 18
ALA Editions is offering a paid workshop online. Elisabeth Doucett published her book Creating Your Library Brand with ALA Editions, and will now give a webinar by the same name. (In the newsletter I edit, Marketing Library Services, gave the title a very favorable review in the Jan./Feb. 2010 issue.) The 90-minute workshop will take place at 2:30 p.m. EST (11:30 a.m. PST) on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.

Doucett is a library director with an MBA in marketing, and she previously worked in marketing  and branding for large corporations. Her book was really clear and useful, so I expect this will be quite a good webinar. In it, Doucett will take you through a step-by-step process that explains how to define your library’s story and develop your brand. She’ll discuss “What is branding and why does it matter?” as well as how to establish a target audience and how to adapt to change.

You can register for this workshop at the ALA Store. There are individual ($55) and group ($110) rates.
